I love this movie. I’ve watched it probably a dozen times, including twice in the past two years. There’s nothing too special about it, but it’s sort of a lower budget High Fidelity type story but from a female’s perspective as she traces back all her failed relationships to figure out what went wrong with her most recent break up. It stars Famke Janssen in her prime and Jon Faverau before he was Disney’s go-to director.
The film was released in just eight theaters before hitting DVD and VHS. I’m not sure how I came across it, but it just spoke to me when I did.
On my most recent re-watch with Brandy, I discovered rather quickly that I think the movie appeals to me because my personality is a lot like Jon Favreau’s in the film. The one scene that stood out particularly was his first date and how he made fun of Famke and even went as far as to jokingly call her a whore (something I did with Brandy and got myself in a lot of trouble).
To most, this is a forgotten direct to video rom/com from the late 90’s/early 2000’s that you wont even find streaming most days unless its for free on YouTube. However, if you like indie films from the 90’s, I highly recommend it. It’s not original or ground breaking, but its cute film.
