As promised, I said I would chime back in with some thoughts on Road Trip: Beer Pong, the 2009 direct-to-DVD sequel to Road Trip.
It’s not bad. The only returning characters are Kyle (DJ Qualls) and the Tour Group Mom (Rhoda Griffis), but that’s probably for the best as it allows the new characters to shine. They are nowhere near as memorable as likeable as the original gang, but for a low budget, late night comedy they suffice. The storyline is one that has been used over and over, but four guys go on a road trip to meet up with a beer pong model that one of them dated for a week years ago. Chaos ensues, gross out humor happens, and the ending is exactly what you’d expect.
It’s worth noting that the director is Steve Rash, who helmed Can’t Buy Me Love, Son In Law, Eddie, and American Pie Band Camp, all movies that I’ve enjoyed. A pre-Community Danny Pudi co-stars, along with Julianna Guill, who really steals the show as the loyal girlfriend who gets left behind.
Road Trip: Beer Pong is not a great movie, but it’s a fun movie that’ll give you a few chuckles and remind you of the simple, goofy comedy that has a little bit of heart and a fair amount of T and A.
